COSTA DEGLI ETRUSCHI / living the summer
on the coast
Covers the entire continental coast of the province of Livorno, affecting from the south to northern territories municipal Piombino, San Vincenzo, Castagneto Carducci, Bibbona, Cecina, Rosignano Maritime and Livorno.
It is so named for the many Etruscan necropolis present mainly between the Gulf of Baratti and Populonia, which originally was the only kind Etruscan town along the coastline, and the designation was subsequently extended to the coast of the province of Livorno, largely Maremma part corresponding to Livorno (the former Maremma Pisa).
The coast is predominantly low in the sandy stretch between Rosignano Solvay north and the Gulf of Baratti south, with beaches generally golden color, with the exception of the coastal stretch between Solvay and Rosignano Go where you extend the striking white beaches.
Further north, the beautiful headlands of Castiglioncello and Quercianella, marking the coast near Livorno, whose shoulders extend the so-called Hills Leghorn. To the south, however, raises the promontory of Piombino, on whose summit rises Populonia, which divides the Gulf of Baratti from the same town of Piombino.

Important destination for skiing enthusiasts from across the Tuscan is easily accessible and volterra in about 2 hours you can expect to reach the heights of the mountain pistoiese.
For major sports are dedicated five of the forty ski slopes descending from the slopes of Le Queens, Sestaione (1309 m above sea level) of Selletta Pass (1711 m above sea level) of Fariola Pass (1753 m above sea level), Pass Hannibal (1735 m above sea level), of Mount Elbow (1892 m above sea level) and Faidello (1288 m above sea level). Two tracks are dedicated to cyclist Fausto Coppi,
in 1940, who won the twenty-eighth Tour of Italy at the summit of the Passo dell'Abetone. |
